That was in Beaumont, TX. I have driven by that prison dozens of times. There's several prisons in the area. We were working on/near prison grounds years back and got watched/protected/escorted by shotgun toting guards on horseback. I'm not sure if they were there to protect us, or to prevent us from potentially leaving contraband for the inmates.
Another time (different prison), I had a crew and were told to meet a supervisor inside the actual fenced prison perimeter so we could coordinate the work we would be doing. We ended up parked in a parking area absolutely surrounded by inmates milling about. That was quite intimidating. Our contact laughed at us. His guards face that situation every single day. To them, it's just another day at work. |
