Default Nothing weeds out the range newbie's like...

158grains of .357. Two or three people next to us were covering their ears and looking at me and started asking "What the hell was that?" The range instructor came over and told them that was the sweet sound of freedom. I didn't want to ruin their fun, so I switched over to 9mm until they left

I'll bet it does. Probably doesn't fall under the category of fun to shoot 100 rounds from though!

I'm a little concerned about my current ar-15 build as I went with a pinned and welded muzzle break instead of the standard A2 flash hider. I heard it can be rather unpleasant to those to the left and right. I don't want to be a jerk though so I will try it at an empty range first to see how it is.

Heavy muzzle breaks suck if you're not the shooter.

I enjoy the smell of gunpowder. Ok, I'm weird since I also like the smell of jet exhaust.

Last range outing I had loaded up some 158gr Hornady JHP with Winchester 296 (357 Magnum obviously).

Now, if you don't know Win296, it's a Magnum only powder. There is very little variance between Minimum/Maximum charge...it's designed to be loaded hot. I don't remember where I put them, but it was over 15 grains of powder I believe, of course a published load. Believe I was using Winchester Magnum Primers, maybe CCI? But either way, they were Small Pistol Magnum Primers.

The bark from those out of my 4 inch 586 Classic was IMPRESSIVE. Stout recoil, nothing out of the ordinary or uncontrollable, but LOUD.

But where that load was REALLY impressive was out of my Rossi 92 (Winchester 92 clone) - I was ringing steel at anwhere from 35 to 100 yards with that load and the fuggin targets were practically swining up and over the steel beams they were chained to. They hit fukin HARD.

I need to chrono that load and see where it's at, but I'll bet that load was damn near 30-30 load velocity.

357 Magnum is an Impressive round when loaded to its potential.

The sweet sound of freedom will come when silencers aren't required to come with a tax stamp and a proctology exam. Just sayin'.

Our best chance of this happening is this year, striking while the iron is hot, as it were.

Very comfortable to shoot 200 rounds out of the Ruger Super Redhawk. My 300 grain handloads knock all the dust out of the ceiling tiles ( plus big fireballs too ) at my gunclub.

Nothing like letting loose with a 357 at dusk at an outdoor range and watching people's reactions to the visual effects on top of the noise.
