And if you’re really dying to know whether or not a suspected criminal was black or white, and this particular crime does not affect you in any possible way, instead of asking yourself what someone looks like, please stop and consider why you need to know at all.

If we said the cars that were street racing were bright orange, it might lead people to believe that bright orange cars street race.

Should we also not state the color of a getaway car? People can find out. Just request the information.

If I watch the news and guess that the race of the perpetrator of EVERY crime I hear of is black, I might be wrong 1% of the time. Not telling me doesn't change the race of the criminal, it just makes it difficult to keep score.
