Faux to dump Beck?
Newser) – The Glenn Beck phenomenon has been, well, phenomenal since the "conjurer of conspiracies" made his Fox debut in 2009, turning the once moribund 5pm time slot into a ratings juggernaut. "But a funny thing happened on the way to the revolution," writes David Carr for the New York Times—those amazing ratings have suddenly nosedived, with Beck losing 30% of his viewers since August. And now Fox News executives "are willing to say—anonymously, of course ... that they are looking at the end of his contract in December and contemplating life without" Beck.
"The problem with 'Glenn Beck' is that it has turned into a serial doomsday machine that’s a bummer to watch," writes Carr. Beck, alone in the studio, surrounded by cluttered chalkboards, "reminds me of an undergrad seminar on macroeconomics with an around-the-bend professor I didn’t particularly enjoy." Of course, even a declining Beck gets numbers most broadcasting pundits could only dream of, and he would probably do fine without Fox—he raked in some $30 million last year in revenue from books, talk radio show, stage performances, and other content. (Click for more from Beck, who called his radio show a "recipe for disaster.") |

From WIKI ..
On May 15, 1979, his mother drowned in Puget Sound, just west of Tacoma, Washington. A man who had taken her out in a small boat also drowned. A Tacoma police report stated that Mary Beck "appeared to be a classic drowning victim", but a Coast Guard investigator speculated that she could have intentionally jumped overboard. Beck has described his mother's death as a suicide in interviews during television and radio broadcasts. After their mother's death, Beck and his older sister moved to their father's home in Bellingham, Washington, where Beck graduated from Sehome High School in June 1982. In the aftermath of his mother's death and subsequent suicide of his stepbrother, Beck has said he used "Dr. Jack Daniel's" to cope. |

Just In--
Exclusive: Limbaugh’s parent company still using actors to fake radio call-ins, exec tells Raw
By David Edwards Monday, March 7th, 2011 -- 12:18 pm The company responsible for syndicating big conservative radio names like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity has been using paid actors to call in to their radio shows. According to a recent report in Tablet Magazine, Premiere Radio Networks, a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications, hired actors to call in as guests. A website for the Premiere On Call service was taken offline before the report was published, but a cached version of the website is still available. However, when Raw Story contacted Premiere's entertainment division, one individual who spoke off the record claimed that the service was still being offered. "Premiere On Call is our new custom caller service," the website said. "We supply voice talent to take/make your on-air calls, improvise your scenes or deliver your scripts. Using our simple online booking tool, specify the kind of voice you need, and we’ll get your the right person fast. Unless you request it, you won’t hear that same voice again for at least two months, ensuring the authenticity of your programming for avid listeners." The pay rate was $40/hour with at least one hour a day guaranteed. The job was explained to him this way: "If he passed the audition, he would be invited periodically to call in to various talk shows and recite various scenarios that made for interesting radio. He would never be identified as an actor, and his scenarios would never be identified as fabricated -- which they always were." Premiere Radio Networks spokesperson Rachel Nelson defended the service by saying that the radio shows that use the service were responsible for how it was used. While it's unclear which syndicated shows used the service, Op Ed News' Gustav Wynn speculated that Sean Hannity would be a prime candidate. "Hannity's record of being caught manipulating public opinion, deceptively editing video, suppressing opposing views, and lopsided call ratios through the decades speaks for itself," Wynn wrote. A call to Rush Limbaugh's spokesman was not returned at the time of publication. Exclusive: Limbaugh’s parent company still using actors to fake radio call-ins, exec tells Raw | The Raw Story |

They prefer to publish letters that don't require having a crew of people work overtime to correct spelling and grammar errors.

I have seldom watched the 4pm central time show at work and no TV. He is much better than the bums on CNN or MSNBC that have no clue about what is going on

The Decline of Glenn Beck
What caused it? Six months ago, Glenn Beck held his “Restoring Honor” rally on the National Mall, drawing a crowd of about 100,000. Newspapers and magazines featured the rally on front pages around the country. The next month, The New York Times Magazine devoted a cover story to him. “In record time,” the piece observed, “Beck has traveled the loop of curiosity to ratings bonanza to self-parody to sage.” Just six months later, however, Beck seems to have traveled somewhere else entirely. His ratings and reputation are in steep decline: His show has lost more than one million viewers over the course of the past year, falling from an average of 2.9 million in January 2010 to 1.8 million in January 2011. ------------------------ What happened? Beck built a following by making outlandish, conspiratorial claims—about ACORN, Obama, and so on. --------- Beck, says Zaitchik, was caught “in a vicious circle”: To keep viewers coming back, he had to keep creating new, more intricate theories. Last November, in a two-part special that indirectly invoked anti-Semitism, he accused liberal Jewish financier George Soros of orchestrating the fall of foreign governments for financial gain. During the Egyptian Revolution, Beck sided with Hosni Mubarak, alleging that his fall was “controlled by the socialist communists and the Muslim Brotherhood.” Beck is now warning viewers not to use Google, accusing the search-engine giant of “being deep in bed with the government.” In recent months, it seems, Beck’s theories became so outlandish that even conservatives—both viewers and media personalities—were having a hard time stomaching them. Now, each new idea appears to be costing Beck both eyeballs and credibility. “At some point,” says Boehlert, “it doesn’t add up any more.” http://www.tnr.com/article/politics/84662/the-decline-g... |
