A 737 per day keeps Airbus away
Boeing produces over FORTY B-737 airplanes a month! That's about one every 18 hours! How do they do it?
A train arrives with the fuselage (main body section) in the morning. That starts a moving production line process that results in a completed plane, ready for flight testing, about 18 hours later. This 3 1⁄2 minute video - (yes, the motions of the humans and robots who build the plane are speeeeded up) - that shows the entire process, is truly fascinating. Pilots and engineers will especially enjoy it... but so will anyone who fly! CLICK BELOW: https://www.youtube.com/embed/SE71NJl-naY?autoplay=1 |

That ain't shit
Every American automaker turned its workforce and facilities to military production during World War II. But no project captured the public's imagination like Willow Run, where Ford Motor Company built one B-24 Liberator airplane every 63 minutes. The plant was the embodiment of America's "Arsenal of Democracy" -- the enormous manufacturing capacity so vital to the Allies' victory. |

I miss the days of flying on the 707's and 727's and 747's. Comfy seating, nice meals, movie screens at the front of the cabin for all to see. I can't stand the cattle cars they call airplanes today. I went from loving air travel from 1963-2001 to farging hating it.

My son worked at their SC facilities, R&D, including providing QC/QA. Mechanics/ installers have to have tool boxes with fitted foam, tools numbered and labeled, so at the end of the shift each tool is back in it's place. Every part has to be accounted for, down to the number of rivets. Machine screws or bolts are designed for each assembly, length tolerance to 1/32", so no extra threads sticking out like you see in a car.

737, even with constant upgrades, will never be the most technologically advanced plane in the skies, but it continues to grow in both efficiencies and values.
It is by far, the most produced / sold commercial passenger plane in our history, and will be a long time before it is surpassed. 737 STATS 1) 11,264 built as of December 2022,,, more DC-3s were built, almost all were military, A 319/320/321 total is 10,708 2) 55 years in the skies, Boeing 737-100 had its first flight in April of 1967 and officially went into service the following February. Lufthansa was the first airline to put this aircraft into their regular rotation 3) The 737 has flown more than 119 billion miles 4) The 737 has carried nearly 17 billion passengers 5) There are about 1,000 737s in the air at once 6) A 737 either takes off or lands every 5.5 seconds somewhere in the world 7) The first 737-100 sold at $3.7M, seating was 85-130 depending on class designation 8) 737-MAX price today is $135M, subject to many factors, seating up to 230, range of 3,100 nautical,,, a 787-8 cost can be as high as $200+M depending on size of order and other factors 9) The 737-800 is the highest selling model, with over 5,000 delivered and another 500+ orders in processing 10) As of DEC 2022, Southwest Airlines operates the most 737s, a total of 771,,, United is second with a total of 364 737s Good read on variants: https://simpleflying.com/boeing-737-...-into-service/ |

Those who love foreign cars also love airbuses.
Actually, going airbus vs. Boeing is much more about price, features, availability and wait time, patriotism should not be judged, except by aholes looking to pick a fight. Step on up!! |

It's a trip that the Douglas DC3 is 90 years old this year and it is still a viable, useful aircraft. As a kid in the early '70's, I would see them fairly often flying over. (along with B-52's). Miss those days.

And yes, I did teach him how to build stuff, from small buildings to cars, as well as fun stuff like pipe cannons. That type of knowledge expanded his expertise into electrical and mechanical engineering. He was tapped by Boeing as one of the team members to design robotic methods to rivet fuselages together, and holds a team patent for that. If I told you were he is now, most here wouldn't believe me. The old saying that "the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree", does not hold true, because in this case it fell to the ground and rolled up a mountain. He's far, far above his old man, and is the smartest, most practical thinker that I have ever personally known. |
