My Fun and Some Details From The 190 MPH Texas Mile Run
A run down on my fun during the event and what it took to do my runs and what would it take to go faster.
The prep for my 99 Coupe was done by my good friend and Mechanic Gotjuice? (Arnold Schoech), who gave me every chance to better his 190.868 MPH and I gave it the All-American to exceed, darn I came up a little short at 190.6.MPH. Arnold did a fresh oil change and while on the lift he looked for any leaks, the brakes being in good order as with the suspension (he does this every oil change). For tires I went with Hoosiers to assist with traction on the lower gears, tire size was C6Z 325/30/19 within .01 of stock height. Also removed the mirrors and reinstalled the stock hood. With all that done he loaded the Vette on the trailer and we took off for Goliad on Friday the 26th. Upon arriving at Goliad at 9:00am we checked in and proceeded to the ¾ mile mark to setup our base with the trailer z06TX (Art) towed for us. After unloading my Vette and Arnold’s along for some show and shine it was time for getting my Vette ready for Saturday morning. Since all the other prep was done prior to arrival all that was needed to be done on my Vette was to be taped and tire air pressure set to the proper psi. Saturday morning could not come early enough for me. After the drivers meeting I lined up for the first run. It was around 60ish and I launched easy in first and short shifted first and then about 6200 in 2-4 and through the traps at 189.5 MPH. Got back in line and got to run after lunch and this time I launched to hard and smoked first and hit the rev limiter in 2nd 7k and missed 4th and did 189 MPH. I got back in line for a final Saturday run and this time I would launch easy and spin to 6800 in all the gears and rolled a 190.1 MPH, so I made it to the 190 club. The next morning it was cooler 50ish and a slight tail wind. I launched easy and spun it to 6800 and did my personal best of 190.6MPH. At this point I decided that 4 full throttle blasts with 20 psi going through my motor was enough abuse and decided to pack it in just short of my 191 MPH goal. I used no oil, about 1 gallon of Methanol and 3 gallons of 109 fuel and came home with a Vette that still hauls ass and in one piece. On my last run I looked at the tach after shifting from 4 to 5 and I was at 5000 rpm and this was about the ½ marker on every run. When I went through the traps in 5th gear on this run I was at 6000 rpm, this left lots more room for more MPH. My conclusion on my Vette is I got the max out of my stock driveline in the mile and to go faster would require at a minimum a different 5 and possible 6 gears or a C6Z or C6ZR1 tranny. Some Pictures and a Vid of my 3rd run and notice the blower whine |

Dam that's got to be a trucklload of fun! No cops, all out.................
Less wheel spin and 195 seems very doable. Nicely done Steve.

Yes it was the most fun I have ever had in my Vette and I have pushed lots of boost through the motor over 17k and upon putting the stock tires and mirrors back on the under neath of the Vette is just fine. I can really say I have driven my Vette how it was meant to be driven and it was all legal. On the 195, I need shorter 5th and 6th gears as the C5 Coupe are gas misers from the factory and then 195+ is there with my HP level |

I've thought about doing that. I just don't know if I have the horses to pull 5th gear,or if the tranny/rear end could take it. it sure as hell looks like a lot of fun.
