53 years in Faryland, outside DC, and frozen over cars are just normal at least twice per winter....

NOW, here in Florida for the last 20 years, and every once in a few years some frost on the w/shield.....but last winter/January this year, here came a double whammy blast...

As most of yawl know, we use heat pumps....for household heat we run the HVAC system backwards....cold coils outside, and heat coils in the air handler....along with some resistance coils for extra help if needed.....

So we had the thing on heat cycle of course.....and here came that freezing damn rain....landing on top of the outdoor compressor/coils/fan.....purrfect temp for the freezing rain lands on top of the unit and starts to accumulate....it's right outside the kitchen sink window so easy to spot the issue, I turn the unit to a/c function to defrost the outside unit.....so the coils defrost and the top is mostly clear, I can see the fan turning.....

an hour or so later, wife sees the unit and goes outside to beat hell out of it to allow airflow......We have NEVER had that experience here, and she is a Florida native of Jax.....

we get a day relief, and here it came AGAIN, day 3 not so bad on the frozen rain but COLD......

we lost just about every plant in the gardens/weed patches, well over a dozen flowering plants, wiped out the front deck garden and we had them covered pretty, we thought.....even had boxes and sheets over top of some flowers, no go......

Stepson in the HVAC trade, worked his ass off for some daze, running around doing same shit for a week, frozen over ice covered outdoor units.....
