I think the reality is they make more complex songs with big production using professional writers from the label. Think about how different the production is from early Aerosmith to late Aerosmith.
Love in an Elevator is a very complex arrangement that is heavily edited. It’s not booze or the lack of it. It’s commercialization.

Interesting perspective. When I think of a band that is heavily edited, I think of the Eagles. That band is way over-produced. Always sounds good, but must cost a fortune.
