The twin Mopars reminded me of a guy that rented a spot in my grandfather's barn. Late 70s and early 80s , Glen Scott kept his 69 Camaro drag car in the barn. it was a 427 4 speed car. He was a mechanic at Bergey's garage. He had a good friend that worked at Bergey's tire recapping plant too.
His tow vehicle was a 68 Caprice wagon with a 427 and a powerglide. It even had AC
He would put the slicks in the back of the wagon and use free wheeling hubs on the camaro rear,then tow it to Maple Grove Raceway.
He always ran the Camaro and most times would run the wagon too. It wasn't the fastest car but he could knock off consistent times like clockwork. His buddy made him a couple sets of recapped snow tires ( VERY close tread that were worthless in the snow) with a soft compound.
One weekend was Super Chevy at Maple Grove Raceway. Glen won his class with the Caprice wagon. He said he would wait in line with the AC on, drive around the water and as he staged, turn off the AC. As he crossed the finish line, the AC went back on.
When the guy from Super Chevy Magazine came around to get the info, he talked a bit and went to get some pics of the wagon. As he took a shot from the back, he mouth dropped and he said "You just set drag racing back 20 years" as he saw the snow tires. Glen told about the soft compound but he still walked away shaking his head
