The parking brake is like a giant C-shaped brake shoe, similar to the 63-82 Corvettes. The rear rotor has a deep hat that acts like a brake drum. If you have a sticky cable or something out of alignment, that will make noise. I have seen people cook bearings by setting the shoe too tight.

100% correct. GWiz is doing the repair 100% on her own. She got the rotor off and the parking brake shoe fell out. One of the two shoes was dislodged and disfigured and broken. She's running to the store to get the new kit.
Gotta love a kid who knows how to work on cars!
