Also, I think you should get back with Fran and ask her to go grab a couple drinks somewhere, just a friendly, NSA meet and greet so you can apologize in person and you both can have a laugh. She might be a fun girl, even if she's not romantically your type. And you both seem like you need a little practice.
Hell, I need a refresher course myself. I've been taking care of my Mom now for almost 5 years, which leaves zero time for dating. If Fran turns out to have a good personality and is a generally nice person, I'll take her out for dinner.
