Default Well, crap...

6 weeks ago, we had the ice cream trucked towed to a shop that was going to get it running for us again. While there, the wife wanted to give it a good scrubbing, and she wanted to fire up the generator to run the A/C. Since the truck was sitting for 3 years, the battery for the generator was dead. I bought a new one, installed it, and the generator fired right up!

The truck itself didn't want to start, as that battery was dead too. So, I bought another battery, installed it, then the truck fired right up. Would you believe there was a lot of material that exited the tailpipe? Bunch of insulation and crap. And a decent amount of white smoke. I had figured this was because the truck hadn't been run for 3 years.

The owner of the shop told us that as soon as he was finished one job, he'd get our truck in to fix the items we had asked him to fix.

A week later, the owner of the shop told us that there was another vehicle in that bay, and as soon as that one was done, he'd get our truck in.

Last week, on Wednesday, I stopped in to see if there was an update on the status of our truck. Guess what? Same story as before. So I asked if it would be ready by Friday afternoon. He laughed at me. Wrong answer.

Thursday afternoon, I stopped in again to find out what that status was. He said he was going to start on the other job in an hour. Told the shop manager, his wife, to call me if the truck goes in the shop that night.

She didn't call.

Friday morning, Laurie and I went to the shop for 9:00am, thinking they would be open. We were going to have the truck moved to another shop. The owner, and his wife, finally showed up at 11:00am. We asked them to prepare our bill, and tow it to the other shop. They prepared the bill, which I paid cash, and they towed it to the other shop.

At the other shop, we talked to the folks and told them what repairs we were wanting. When the truck arrived there, it was running hot (towed with the engine on so they wouldn't have to disconnect the driveshaft).

Got a call this morning from the second shop. They checked the compression and two cylinders are low. And there is a blown head gasket.

Now I need to figure out if I want to buy a crate 460 to put in there, find a 460 powered donor vehicle or...

We had wanted to get the ice cream truck up and running this year, to do some profiteering before the season ends.

Might have to have a 1 ingredient glass of bourbon tonight.
