A proper Martini, IMHO starts with a Martini glass, and a shaker pulled from a freezer, and good Gin From a fridge.
The gin is poured over ice and STIRRED, the Martini glass has a bit of Vermouth swirled, then dumped.
Poued through a strainer, with an olive placed in the bottom, toothpick optional.
Good stuffed olives should be served on the side.

Agree 100% on mixing the drink. That is exactly how I do it. Often though I prefer a lemon twist it it's really good gin but I do like olives in martinis. Just not 'dirty martinis'. Oh, and 1 Olive or 3. Never 2 olives.
