I worked at/owned a scrap metal business for 38 years, from the time I was 13 to 51, in a shit neighborhood in down town Atlanta.
I've been in 5 stick ups and fired on 3 times.
After the last one my wife insisted I retire.
I refused.
A year later, my brother/bus. partner was carjacked. We recovered his car and pistol. He wasn't harmed. When I got home from work that day, my wife met me at the door and said through gritted teeth, "You've had your fun, made your money,.....YOU WILL RETIRE AND SELL THAT G.D. PLACE."
I wanted to work longer, but deep down, I knew my luck was gonna run out. My brother and I sold the business. During the 6 month transition, I carried 2 handguns on me and an AR15 with 8 magazines in the office.
On my last day at work, at the end of the day, I tossed my keys to the new owners, said "It's been real" and walked out the door.
Never looked back.
