Sorry to hear. I will tell you that your head gets a bit messed up when the doc tells you about the big C. With access to the webs and all of the crap that's out there it gets pretty confusing. The traditional treatments (mine was immunotherapy) are not at all appealing. Side affects suck. Having said that, I'm sorry he didn't look into "traditional" medicine for a solution. I hope you and his immediate family can get through this.
