Not exactly. When the fans run, they both run.

In low speed fan operation, the fans are wired in series, such that each motor receives half voltage (6v).

In high speed fan operation, relays switch to wire the fan motors in parallel, so that each sees a full 12v.

Turning the A/C on will command the fans on low speed at speeds below 35 mph, and if the coolant temp is over 185.

In driving Portdawg's car in BG, the temp sensor acted normal, and it was easy to watch it climb and drop incrementally. Not indicative of a bad sensor IMO. I took the car out for a short, slow speed cruise, and temps consistently hung around 230 while moving at ~45mph, which, while within the limits of "normal" temp range, is definitely NOT normal behavior. During extended idle, sure 230 is quite normal. But just cruising at a moderate speed, temps should drop fairly rapidly in the high 190s, and this is what isn't happening on Jim's car. The cooling capacity is greatly diminished.

I would have suspected radiator before water pump, but now that the water pump is changed, that's a moot point.

Hope you get it solved soon.
