One time back in the early 2000's I was wearing shorts and sandals, went through security, and got selected for this. They were training a new guy, so he went to work while his supervisor watched. I think the metal in my ankle may have set off the metal detector, this was before the body scanners. He felt me up and down, then ran the hand-held scanner over me. It went off near my right ankle. I said "Yeah, six screws and a steel plate there." Then he starts running his hands down my bare legs, I guess because I perhaps am a cyborg or something. His supervisor said "Um, you don't need to check bare skin." He nodded with this bit of insight.
