If Jeff's comment was false, or intended to shame you, then yes, he also crossed a line. I didn't immediately see it as an attack, more like he might have been trying to give you an example of his position, as in, "they are out there fighting for the rights of your kid."
I'll admit that I don't know if you guys have history, though.
