Not if she's the one who own's the rights to the IP that makes others obsolete. "Hey company: Here's some software that makes the work of me and 3 peers able to be done by just me. It only costs this much, and I can proliferate it for you." Is that enough return on investment?
Technology still has to be maintained. She may be able to leverage this summer into a summer where she stays in engineering AND gets to stay in software to make both parties better off then before they met.
Seriously, as an intern, if you can use your skills to make 3 full-time employees (non interns) obsolete, do you not think said corporation will take notice? I do, and I think they would pay her a premium to continue to deliver said results. It doesn't stop with the first 3. It extends and extends until there is no one else to replace.
