Default 57 283 Identification help

My dad has a 283 that he has probably had since early 60's. Number on the front passenger side block is FI008P, block casting # is 3731548, date J46. I'd like to identify it.

What I think I have determined is built in Flint on October 4th of 56. It does not have the side motor mounts.

Can anyone tell me what it is and what it went in? Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. This is my first day identifying small block Chevys!

I'd post pictures but apparently I am too new here! I have a post on Corvette Forum titled "1957 283 Identification" that has pictures of the numbers. I can't find any info on the P suffix.

Thanks for your input!
