We had our first after having been married for about 3 years. Then, somehow, we convinced ourselves that we wanted 2 kids 2 years apart, so we had our second 2 years after the first. When we got Mr. B home from the hospital, and we were sitting around in our living room with a 2 year old and a 2 month old, we asked each other "why was it that we wanted them 2 years apart?" Neither of us could answer.
