The Tamron/Sigma 100- 600 is
EVERYWHERE. I've shot both and I'd give the edge to the Sigma as it's a bit better at 600. I think people are buying these things for the 600 end in many cases. If I didn't have the Canon 100-400 II I'd have one in a minute.
I've talked to many a shooter with these and while there's a few that understand what it takes to capture a bird in flight, a whole lot of them complain their shots are soft. Typically the conversation turns to settings and low and behold they're expecting consistent shots at 1/800 sec and below. They'll get lucky from time to time but by and large that's just too slow.
Dead duck here was at 1/1600 sec.
