many people call themselves Christians but do not know or follow the teachings of the Bible.
likewise, many people call themselves Muslims but do not know or follow the teachings of the Koran.
those that we term 'radical muslims' view themselves as the only true muslims, as they actually know and follow the Koran. the polite types are viewed as fallen or apostate muslims by the 'radical' ones, who need to be brought around or killed.
