This happened a long time ago, but my cousin shot and killed his step-father for abusing his Mother. Step-father was a drunk who like to beat up on his wife. Mother took the rap for her son (his was before the day of true forensics, so no powder residue testing was done), but he was never the same: He developed a drinking problem, died of alcoholism and lung cancer at age 57.
