What you are hand-crafting is light years (no pun) ahead of what even Gene would have ever envisioned in his wildest dreams - and, some of them were pretty out there. Do it right (wiring), paint, etc.) and be proud of your worthy hobby. Be sure to share your adventure on YouTube using a decent camera, title it carefully/right and watch the hit-ometer go absolutely crazy.
