Sounds like my FIL except the drinking part.
We'll be there on vaca and he'll get some awesome ribs to cook, I'll make sure they get setup and slow cooking with just little smoke. I'll watch all day... Then step away for a beer or something and he'll crank them to cremate and ruin them. He caught them on fire once. I threw a whole pan away couple years ago and went got a pizza. The wife likes burnt food and she wouldn't eat them. My son who likes to eat starting sharpening a shovel... Grampa may have to go...
