So we have this stuff in the chaparral called manzanita. Fire doesn't even need to touch it, as if gets hot enough, the oil inside it causes it to explode into flames.

Grows like weeds, not like forest. Can't imagine what it would take to eradicate the threat, but this is not anything like trimming up to 10' to keep the fire on the ground.

Imagine having to mow the entire surface area of every mountain every year.
