Given money to people (sometimes when they wanted a loan) but only for very good reasons. Never got a penny back. Not often though.

Only was loaned money once. $2000, by my brand new father-in-law, so we could buy a house. Needed money for the down payment and closing costs. Very modest house. Told him I'd have it payed back, with interest, in less than a year. Had it payed back in two months. He wouldn't let me pay any interest. Said it was the only time anyone ever paid him back.

If I remember correctly, we really just needed to have X amount in our checking/savings account for the house deal to go through. Most of the loan didn't even get spent, otherwise it would have taken me a lot longer to pay back. Would have been really nice to use that money to buy stuff for the house, but we held off.

I couldn't live with myself knowing I stiffed a friend or family member like that.
