Guess what! I am a skilled professional with a background that is hard to acquire as well as expensive. I am not turning the same wrench for 30 years and demanding that my employer comensate me for what I feel like I need instead of what I produce.
When you start compensating people on what they "need" or "deserve" then you generate the dependent titsucking society that lives only to reproduce.
Needs are easy to generate. Skills are not, thats why they are valuable.
