.......Will Commit Suicide Over This Long Weekend.
As we enjoy all the benefits our country provide us this Memorial Day weekend...let's not forget the 66 vets who will kill themselves. That's 22 a day. In combat, that would be a number worth noting. But, these men and women are dying in a non-combat zone: civilian life.
There are some who aren't looking forward to burgers on the grill...or a couple of cold drinks with friends...or swimming for the first time this season...or walking a beach or mountain trail...or viewing a beautiful sunrise or sunset from a favorite spot.
There are men and women who have decided that their lives are over. So, while you and I are complaining about the heat or bad storms coming through our part of the country, a few -- who feel abandoned, forgotten, guilty, rejected, an not worthy of continuing life's journey -- will take their lives.
Let's not forget them. We don't have to know them personally to try to understand the pain they are going through.
So, as we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in combat...let's not forget those who will lose the battle this weekend. They too will make the ultimate sacrifice.
