Funny, I lived in the SF Bay Area from 1961 to 2003. The 1989 quake collapsed the Cypress structure freeway, dropped a section of the Bay Bridge, and destroyed many buildings and killed people. Dad's house in Oakland suffered quite a bit of plaster damage . Many other smaller quakes before and since in the Bay Area, but the '89 quake is not easily forgotten.
