The people "in charge" are seeing that the emperor has no clothes with the latest variant. They are doing anything they can to maintain control, because all they know is power and oppression. They're scared of the reality that the vid is coming to an end and they can no longer dominate through fear. I'm not terribly hopeful about the masses seeing through this BS and getting people in office that support personal freedoms over politicians' private gain.
