The rent-a-tire market isn't really geared to people who need a set of stock size rear tires for their '99 Hyundai that has 200.000 miles on it, it's for people who want to put a $ 5,000 set of wheels and tires on that same car, but can't pay cash for it.
Regular poor people buy used maypops for $ 25 a piece at the Mexican tire shop in the hood. I've bought used tires in the past, mainly if I had a blowout with a worn set of tires and wanted a used matching tire that would get me through until the rest of the set was fully worn out and replaced.
