The only reason they would want to keep your crystal was if it was a vintage Sub with an acrylic crystal. They don’t try and polish sapphire crystals. If you had a vintage Sub with an acrylic crystal, you seriously needed to not change that crystal and just buff out any scratches. That original crystal could add a lot to your Sub’s value.
Rolex no longer uses acrylic crystals, but those old vintage Subs with plastic crystals are worth much more than a brand new one with a sapphire crystal. Most collectors think they look a lot better aesthetically.
