This is not exclusive to osu, most teams do this, makes money for them and hides their weaknesses.
osu does well each year doing this, miami effed it up by losing, actually got asssmashed, by middle tenn state junior college of women's studies.
We can all agree that before the season starts, there are no more than 5 teams, based on prior year performance, that will contend for the title.
osu may be the favorite to kick, but mich and a&m and texas, all do very poorly given their endless resources, huge coaching budgets, five-star rosters and ability to recruit without competition.
