I had two friends that had X1/9's and they were a fun car to drive. Not much on raw HP but that made you become extremely smooth.
Bob had a '74 X1/9 and I helped hopped it up. Bigger cam, header and exhaust plus rejetted the carb on the "large" 1.5L engine. Also put wider tires on it. That handled like a go kart and could really shine in the twisties.
Karl had a '80 X1/9 that he kept immaculate. He purchased it when he was in the Navy on sub duty ( out of NH )
One late winter day he came back down to PA and it had duct tape on the lower part of the driver's door. I asked what happened and he said he got stuffed into a snow bank by a state snow plow truck.
