Many years ago when I was a kid the Hudson River was very polluted. Just about anything you could think of would float down stream.
One of the guys in our group was not wrapped too tight. He (about age 13-14) would pull a condom from the shoreline shake it off and put it on. We used to laugh at him but to the best of my knowledge he never picked up any health problem from his little hobby. FWIW we used to call condoms "Troy Eels'' because the city of Troy was only a few miles upstream of Albany.
