Default Stealership almost got me

I've been having a crank but no start problem for about a year. The end of last year I bought and installed a new underhood fuse box. Problem went away.

The problem came back so I bit the bullet and took the Vette to the dealership. They called today and said that they diagnosed the fuse box being the problem and were going to replace it for a nominal fee of $1200 with tax.

I asked if they had checked the blocks in the bottom of the box and they said that their diagnostic chart said to replace the fuse box before going any further. I again told them that it was a new box and that I felt the problem was in the blocks and that I would be there shortly.

Got there and was allowed in the shop to talk with the mechanic. Got him to pull the fuse box and check the blocks. Low and behold he found the plastic spring that keeps tension on the pin was broken and would not keep constant tension on his probe. The block is going to be replaced for a total of $487.59. I saved $700 by getting involved.

Don't blindly accept their opinion.
