What that article and chart don't address is that the yield of nuke weapons has increased more than the number of them has decreased. The size of them has shrunk significantly as the yield has increased. The ones dropped on Japan are tiny compared to what's out there now.
If man can find better ways to kill more people they'll build them. That's been proven for millennia.
