It is several orders of magnitude more deadly than the flu.
As it is a "new" virus there is no community immunity as it is here for the first time.
There will be no viable immunizations for a long time yet.
It is also present in a remarkably large part of the world in a very short time period making regional containment nearly impossible.
If this thing becomes recurrent year to year it will be even bigger than the current flu in terms of number of cases, and will kill many times more people each year.
