I think you mean bronze wool, steel wool corrodes and turns the teak black. My dad learned that one the hard way back in 1976.

My dad learnt that one the hard way in 1976 too. He thought he could get away with dumping it over the side while we were beached in the murky water of Port Sheldon. What he didn't realize is the blue chemical really shows up nicely on top of the water.
