Perhaps but....what we (currently in MT) consider "not so safe areas is pretty much non-existent compared to the remainder of the nation.
Random wackos and drunken/drugged domestic violence happen pretty much nationwide. But consistent and daily stranger-on-stranger violent crimes are VERY rare outside black/hispanic/poor communities.
Personally, at this point in time, I wouldn't feel comfortable long-term in ANY community, gated/secured or not if we were within a few hours of large communities of minorities....unless.....Asian.
Years of personal experiences have opened my eyes to reality. It's FAR worse now!
