The problem with the "nappy headed ho's" comment is that unless you were a seriously nasty racist, it just wasn't funny, at all. As a professional, he should have realized that right away, and followed it up right there on the show by apologizing and saying it was over the line, and the thing might not have blown up the way it did. His refusal to admit his joke sucked for about a week is what ended up making it national news, and making him look like that attitude was really what he was about.
