To answer Lar's obvious self-serving question, yes I do know how to build stairs. Although I didn't cut the carriages for this, or set the treads and risers, I laid it out in the plans for my carpenter and he built those items per plan. I then installed several pounds of screws to make sure that it won't squeak in my lifetime. Then I cut the large pine timber, got a helper to get it into position, and used all hidden timber screws for the install. Then I made the pine timber railing, installed it along with the steel balusters and maple handrail.
