Neither are necessary. Just went and sussed it out. The WT mat has a checkered pattern but there are two squares that are slightly different in size shape with an outline around them that line up perfectly with the D rings on the cargo bed.
So looks like no measuring or anything needed I just have to get a box-cutter and flip the matt over and cut out those two squares.
