Florida city blasts "Baby Shark" to drive homeless people away from sleeping in public
Add hostile soundscapes to the practices cities will deploy against their homeless populations

Cities have long used design elements to deter homeless populations from sleeping in public spaces — oddly-shaped park benches, water sprinklers, spiked surfaces, sloped window sills. It’s known as “hostile architecture,” and is criticized by many as a form of cruelly reinforcing social divisions.

But city officials in West Palm Beach, FL, have implemented an audio component as a deterrent by playing a continuous loop of two children’s songs — “Baby Shark” and “Raining Tacos” — to prevent homeless people from sleeping on the patio of a city-owned rental banquet facility.
