After about 30 minutes all of a sudden the screen gets all streaky and I see sparks coming out the back and a flame jumps up. I jumped up and moved the TV enough that I could see the back. Flames coming from where the power cord plugs into the TV. Pulled the cord out of the TV and then the other end out of the power strip it was plugged into.
We have smoke detectors but I would hate to think how far along that might have gotten before they went off. I guess it’s off to BB tomorrow for a new Tv.
This one was a Panasonic Viera, 50” plasma and was about 12 years old.
I had a similar experience with the smell and being unable to locate it. Turned out mine was a dimmer switch that someone had connected directly to the ceiling fan. When I went to bed that night I turned off the light switch and the wall was hot. Later I removed the dimmer switch and it about crumbled in my hand.
