I have been on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley for about 4 years now. For most of that time I have been pushing for some sort of statistic that we can use in fundraising that demonstrates that kids who go to the clubs fare better than their peers.
We had a board meeting yesterday. The Executive Director gave us the following information from the Knox County Schools.
Pre-Covid, 20% of economically disadvantaged kids were proficient at their grade level.
Currently, that is 12%.
Club kids are at 29%.
We're having good effects but damn.
