Duplicolor has a perfect match for pewter.
Painting is pretty much all in the prep work. I cleaned the piece with mineral spirits, sanded with 320, then 600 grit, 3 coats of self leveling primer, 4 coats of color, then about 7 coats of clear.
Then I let it dry for 48 hours, wetsanded it with 1000 & 2000 grit, then polished it out.
The hardest part was the polishing. I did it by hand.
Worst thing about it was, I had to do it all, plus glass work, over again less than two weeks later, after the wife decided she wanted to hit a parking curb!
Matte black would be a snap to do. No wetsanding or polishing! Done and on the car in a couple hours.
That's what I would do.
