During some of the big fires here, the fire departments that came from all over used the fairgrounds next to where I live as a staging point. Man, these guys bring their own city with them when they come in large numbers. My wife and I used to walk our dogs over there and talk to them. It was a real pleasure to get to meet them and thank them in person. Great people.
Even with fires not far away, you feel pretty safe with all that equipment and personnel 100 feet from your doorstep.
